The SHRTN Library Service provides access to current, evidence-based information and supports the transfer of research knowledge into best practice. The service is freely available to all caregivers working in seniors’ health in Ontario and directly supports the work of all SHRTN Communities of Practice and Local Implementation Teams.
In order to provide evidence-based or informed care, caregivers need to have access to evidence. In Ontario, any caregiver who works with seniors can access evidence through the SHRTN Library Service. This important, free service is coordinated by a trained librarian and is delivered by four seniors’ health information specialists working out of partner library sites in Ottawa, Guelph, Toronto, and Hamilton.
Every year SHRTN develops partnerships with four organizations to provide library services to any paid caregiver who works with seniors in the province of Ontario. In 2008-09, SHRTN once again contracted with Baycrest in Toronto, Bruyère Continuing Care in Ottawa, St. Peter’s Health System in Hamilton, and St. Joseph’s Health Centre in Guelph. These four organizations each hired an Information Specialist, and Baycrest hired a Librarian to coordinate the delivery of the SHRTN Library Service across Ontario.
