Osteoporosis

Osteoporosis is a serious condition that causes bones to become severely thin and fragile and to break easily. It’s a common and serious problem for frail older adults and a serious challenge for their caregivers.

The purpose of the Osteoporosis Community of Practice (CoP) is to disseminate osteoporosis information to front-line care providers. The information we disseminate is evidence-based, research-based, and clinically relevant.

We do this through a variety of methods, including:

  • Awareness-raising and promotion strategies (e.g, develop media).
  • Education/learning opportunities (e.g, expert presentations).
  • Engage care providers in point-of-care research opportunities.
  • Collaboration and promoting networking opportunities.

Membership

Our core working group includes researchers, educators, and librarians. We plan to incorporate paid caregivers, unpaid caregivers, and policy makers within our CoP.

Resources

Significant work went into the development and completion of an informational DVD and a toolkit that contains all the learning materials for long-term care homes.
