The founding purpose of the Spiritual Care Community of Practice (CoP) is to ensure that professional spiritual care is provided to seniors in health care settings by:
Much effort has gone into development of a series of online videoteleconference presentations, such as “Spirituality and Dementia” and “Exploring Spiritual Intelligence”. Our next step is to make the tools and resources from these presentations available on our website as self-directed learning modules.
The CoP is currently working on the self-spiritual assessment tool in long-term care. It was presented at a conference in Sudbury to members. The assessment was also subject to a focus group that was initiated at the same conference for the purpose of validating the assessment tool.
In addition to this, material was taken at the Sudbury conference that led ultimately to the draft and final versions of our first DVD, which is now available and will soon be made accessible from from our website.
A second DVD on Spiritual Assessment has also begun development.
Over 260 members belong to the Spiritual Care CoP, from Ontario and beyond. Our members are chaplains, recreation coordinators, best practices coordinators, directors of care, nurses, social workers, occupational therapists and various other professionals.
We are not closely linked to any existing spiritual care service associations at this time, but we would be happy to discuss such affiliation/sponsorship. We support the work of, amongst others:
