The Improving Continence Care Collaborative (IC3) is a Community of Practice that, most recently, has been using videoconferencing to educate long-term care homes about improved continence care. IC3 has helped to reduce the use of continence products at long-term care homes, and they have successfully implemented prompted voiding protocols. IC3 is now incorporating measurement data from RAI-MDS into their evaluation measures.
The successful implementation of IC3 at Rosebridge Manor is featured in Best practice provides residents dignity, an article published by Omni Health Care.
Membership of the IC3 is made up predominantly of over 150 paid caregivers. It also includes unpaid caregivers, researchers, policy makers, educators, and librarians.
Tools developed by IC3 participants have been incorporated into the RNAO Long-Term Care Resources Toolkit. Participants have developed newsletters and Powerpoint presentations to share with the other participants. They also shared referral tools and toileting schedules. Participants were directed to the quality improvement tools on the Ontario Health Quality Council (OHQC) website and had the opportunity to use the tools during the Learning Sessions.
