The goal of the Mental Health, Addictions and Behaviours Community of Practice (CoP) is to bring together people, ideas, and resources to increase awareness of the needs of seniors affected by serious mental illness, addiction, or behavioural issues.
The Mental Health, Addictions and Behaviours CoP has established a partnership with the Ontario’s Geriatric Mental Health Outreach Teams (GMHOTs). Across the province, GMHOTs are the major resource for improving the health system in regards to seniors with serious mental health, addictions and behavioural issues. The CoP creates strategic networking for the GMHOTs to foster increased knowledge exchange and development.
Recently, the CoP has co-ordinated activities and learning events as forums to profile and share innovative practices, partnerships, strategies, and models relevant to CoP objectives. The CoP has also supported a research proposal for family practice physicians to receive education on dementia screening practices.
