Priority Development Initiative

About

One of the central aims of the ORC is to promote new collaborative projects involving an interdisciplinary team of investigators. The Priority Development Initiative was developed to leverage the expertise of stakeholders, including researchers, clinicians, frontline workers and decision-makers via a modified Delphi survey. The results of this annual survey will inform the ORC’s Priority Development Initiative and help identify a health research priority which will be supported with proposal preparation funding of up to $35,000. Criteria for selecting the research priority area should include whether it involves investigators from more than one ORC institute/centre and whether they are multidisciplinary.

Once the priority area is established, a proposal will be prepared by a team of both established and new experts in Ontario. In order to be eligible for the grant investigators must:

  • submit a multi-year operating grant on the priority topic to the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) or a comparable agency
  • form an interdisciplinary research team including policy-makers, researchers, trainees and caregivers
  • include collaborations with program evaluation and policy/health system analysis skills

The expectations for expenditure of the proposal preparation funding will include travel allowance for several required in-person team meetings, a literature review, potential pilot work and a salary for a grant writer if necessary.
